A new build sprinkled with repurposed elements – end result – a charming seaside home.

With the beach, quaint shops and a golf course just a stone’s throw away, this new build, in one of BC’s seaside towns, brings a casual elegance to its picturesque neighbourhood.

After an initial consultation to review the kitchen plan, our clients quickly realized the value of adding an interior design team to their crew. With the home in the early framing stages, we had the time to take an already great architectural plan and put the District 309 spin on it. Tweaking key areas, planning custom millwork, selecting materials and curating the lighting & furniture package. The result: a home beyond their wildest dreams.

A passion for cooking and entertaining meant the kitchen needed to be the hub of this home. Not only did it need to match the understated elegance of our client, but it also required a spacious, carefully considered layout to accommodate open plan living and easy access to outdoor entertaining and key task areas in the home. With regular visits from their adult children and grandchildren it had to feel roomy enough for raucous family dinners, yet still have a cozy, welcoming quality for intimate dinners for two.

Incorporating numerous well-chosen “found” items [including lighting, architectural elements, doors, mirrors & furniture] throughout the home, added a particular warmth and unexpected charm to this new build. One example: the main floor powder room vanity, once a Juliette balcony from an old New York city apartment, is now transformed into a unique conversation piece.

Under the stairs, hidden behind touch latch walls that blend in with the foyer mouldings, you’ll find additional storage for seasonal items. An arched opening immediately off the kitchen leads into the large pantry. Increasing the depth of the arch adds refined drama while allowing the subzero appliances and china cabinet to be recessed into the adjacent walls. Bespoke millwork, with elevated details, provides well-planned storage throughout the home. Spacious rooms, with clean lines, carefully selected furnishings and one of a kind antique elements enhance the overall feel of this home, making it widely appealing yet unique to the owners’ style.
